Michael J. Raszkiewicz, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Michealene (Kalina) Raszkiewicz, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage until her passing in 2016.
Born in Reading, Michael was the son of the late Stanley and Emily (Sosh) Raszkiewicz. He graduated from Central Catholic High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University. A lifelong athlete, he played baseball and football in high school and college, and later became a standout handball competitor, holding many championship titles. In 1994 he was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame and in 2017 he was inducted into the Berks Catholic Hall of Fame.
Michael began his career as a House Manager at the Children’s Home of Reading and went on to serve as a Special Education teacher at Northwest Middle School for more than 30 years.
Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, Michael always had a joke ready to share. He had a passion for performing card tricks, loved baking his delicious homemade pizza and making chocolate candies. One of his greatest joys was cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events.
Michael also found meaningful ways to spread his kindness. His personal delivery service “Razz’s Meals on Wheels” where he made homemade meals for his children and their families, became a cherished tradition. He also enjoyed surprising friends and local businesses often with freshly baked soft pretzels, a gesture that brought smiles wherever he went.
Those honoring Michael’s memory include his children: Christopher Raszkiewicz (Jennifer), and Marcy Ament (Scott); Jill Raszkiewicz; his grandchildren: Marley, Kenzi, Quinn and Alex, and his brothers: Stan, Tom, and Jim.
His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
