Michael Plaskonos

Michael Plaskonos, 87, of Derby, VT, died December 19, 2010 in the Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Ann C. (Courtney) Plaskonos, whom he married May 26, 1956.

Born in McAdoo, he was a son of the late Teodore and Martha (Snihur) Plaskonos.

He was a 1941 graduate of McAdoo High School, 1949 graduate of Albright College and a 1955 graduate of Bucknell University.

Michael was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII. He was a participant in D-Day and fought in the European Theatre.

He taught English and Social Studies for 25 years in Columbus, OH, until his retirement in 1985.

Michael was an avid sports fan. In high school he was a three sport athlete and named to the all-state football team as well as the Ukrainian All- American team in 1942. He continued to play football at Albright where he was Captain of the team his senior year.

He was a member of St. John Baptist de la Salle, Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children: Martha (Marti), wife of Robert Spezialetti, Mohnton and Eric M., husband of Kristi Plaskonos, Fairfield, CT. Also surviving are his sister, Ann Plaskonos, Drums, and his brother, Anthony M. Plaskonos, Langhorne. Five grandchildren: Matthew Spezialetti, Benjamin Spezialetti, Bryn Spezialetti, Blanche Plaskonos and Henri Plaskonos also survive him.

Michael was predeceased by five siblings: Mary Mashack, Paul Plaskonos, Stephen Plaskonos, Olga Carfora and Wasil Plaskonos.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. John's Church. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. in the church. Burial will be private.
