Michael P. Phillips, Jr., 85, passed away December 20, 2021, at The Keystone Villa at Fleetwood, in Blandon, PA.
He was the husband of Vivian E. (Meszar) Phillips.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Michael P. Phillips, Sr., and Mary (Banis) Phillips.
He was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School, Jersey City, N.J. and attended St. Peter's College, Jersey City.
Michael served our nation proudly and valiantly in the U.S. Army.
Family and faith were most important to Michael; he was an active member of the Middlesex Presbyterian Church, Middlesex, NJ, serving as an elder and sang in the church choir.
He was employed as a facilities administrator by UMDNJ (now called Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences) retiring in 2001. He formerly worked for Bellcore (Lucent Technologies), Ingersoll Rand, The Baker and Taylor Company and County Bank and Trust Company as a Branch Manager.
Michael was a warm, caring, selfless person who always spoke his mind and had a great sense of humor. He loved taking vacations to the New Jersey Beaches with family. Surf fishing and crabbing were some of his favorite activities. Michael enjoyed traveling with the family throughout the United States. In his later years, Michael and Vivian enjoyed their time share in Antigua.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who set a great example for all his children.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Glen M., husband of Susan Phillips, Exeter Township, Lara E. Philips, Franklin Park, NJ, and Gene D., husband of Sundee Phillips, Goodyear, AZ; and five grandchildren: Samuel Phillips, Lindee Lorig married to Kraymer Lorig, Kody Triplett, Brayden Phillips, married to Samantha Phillips, and Megan, wife of J.T. Hurt. Four great-grandchildren also survive him, Daxton Lorig, Colin Phillips, Everest Phillips, and Bexlie Hurt.
Michael was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Borkowski and Dorothy Hoogerhyde.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday December 29, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Park Road Presbyterian Church, 1045 N. Park Road, Wyomissing, PA. Burial will be private. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market St, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
