Michael L. Evangelista, 87 of Hamburg died February 26th in the Spruce Manor where he had resided the past 3 months. His wife Dorothy I. (Moyer) Evangelista died September 11, 1979. He was born in Landingville, PA and was the son of the late Michele and Tomasina (Cutrone) Evangelista. Michael was employed as a core maker by Reading Gray Iron Company for 32 years retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Mary R.C. Church, Hamburg, and was an Army WWII Veteran. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1941. Mike played baseball for the Chicago White Sox in 1946 in their minor league organization in Green Bay. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, gardening and bowling. He rolled a 300 game and a 703 in open bowling. A book was written locally about his baseball and army career entitled "Mike." He is survived by 2 sons: Dennis M., Wilkes-Barre and Thomas M., Blandon, 2 daughters: Rosemary M. wife of Robert Darkes, Womelsdorf, Christina M. wife of Ed Eppenstein, Laureldale,several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter Teresa Vogt on November 16, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th St., Hamburg. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hamburg.
