Michael DeMarco, 89, of Muhlenberg Township,most recently of Fleetwood, passed away March 16, 2013 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
His wife, Hildegard I. (Schmitt) DeMarco, died August 22, 2009.
Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Frank and Caroline (Borrel) DeMarco.
Michael was a 1942 graduate of Minersville High School.
He was a Reading Police Detective for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. From 1976 to 1986 he worked as an investigator for Wells Fargo.
Michael was an avid sports fan and played football for the Pottsville Maroons for which he was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed golf.
He was a life member of Victor Emmanuel II Beneficial Society where he was a counselor and sergeant at arms.
Michael was a member of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Reading.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran, serving in the North Atlantic during WWII.
Michael was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved watching his grandchildren grow up and was looking forward to his reunion with his wife.
He is survived by his two children: Michael E., husband of Lisa DeMarco, Cumming, GA and Carla, wife of Kenneth Reimert, Fleetwood. Also surviving are his four grandchildren: Micheal, Sophia, Mason and Marlowe.
Michael was predeceased by his 11 siblings: James DeMarco, Albert DeMarco, Edward DeMarco, Peter Rinaldo, John Rinaldo, Nicholas Rinaldo, Thomas Rinaldo, Stanley Rinaldo, Helen Tretter, Julia Terefencko, Margaret Daniels.
Graveside Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
