Merrilees B. Mount

Merrilees B. Mount, a resident of Phoebe Berks Village and formerly of Shoemakersville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24 th , 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul H. Mount, to whom she was married for 45 ½ years, and a sister, Joan (Barth) Enggaard. Born June 1 st , 1924 in Reading, PA, Merrilees was the daughter of Ernest L. and Mary Francies (White) Barth. Merrilees was of the Methodist faith, having been a former member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church, Reading, and Bethany United Methodist Church, Hamburg. She was a 1942 graduate of Mt. Penn High School and a 1945 graduate of the University of Delaware where she was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Society. Merrilees began her work experience with Philadelphia Electric Company where she worked as a home economist for five years. She was proud to be part of a team that produced the first hour long show for women in the United States which was called "Television Matinee". After her marriage, she then worked for PP&L out of both Sunbury and Lancaster. During her four years with PP&L in Lancaster, Merrilees appeared on 155 televised half hour cooking programs on WGAL TV entitled "Through the Kitchen Door". After spending time at home raising her three young children, she began her teaching career and taught one year at Solanco Jr.-Sr. High School in Lancaster County. Merrilees then furthered her studies and became an elementary teacher, teaching one year for the Exeter School District followed by twenty-one years at Perry Elementary School in Shoemakersville, for the Hamburg Area School District. Surviving her are three children: Francies Mount, Littleton, CO; Vicki Dissinger, wife of Steven Dissinger, Bernville, PA; and Major Peter Mount, US Army (Retired), husband of Laura, Colorado Springs, CO. She is also survived by her sister, Agnes (Barth) Jones, San Diego, CA, two granddaughters, Ashley and Jennifer Mount, and a step-grandson, Steven Dissinger, Jr. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 30 th , 2017, from 10 to 11 am at the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. located at 40 S 4 th St, Hamburg, PA. Funeral services will follow at 11 am. Interment will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Rd, Reading, PA.
