Meriam H. Arndt

Meriam Hazel (Homan) Arndt, Sr., 94, of Reading, has entered the golden gates on May 15, 2014 surrounded by her loving family in St. Joseph Medical Center.

She was the wife of Gilbert Sanchez, Puerto Rico and the late Abner Henry Arndt.

Born March 3, 1920 in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Bright and Matilda H. (Luttman) Homan.

Meriam was employed with Luckenbill Knitting Mill, Girogio Foods, Inc. and Northwest Assembly.

She attended Spring Valley Church of God.

A very neat lady who loved to cook, Meriam had quite a sense of humor and always wore a smile on her face. She enjoyed being surrounded by her huge loving family and loved to embroider, play bingo, scratch-off tickets, watch wrestling, The Cooking Channel, Maury Povitch and True TV.

Surviving are her eight children: Beatrice H., widow of Lester W. Barlet of Richmond Twp.; Patricia L., widow of Maximimo Guzman of Laureldale; Joan D., wife of Randall J. Rothermel, Sr. of Richmond Twp.; Bertha B., wife of Felipe Vazquez of Maxatawny Twp; Meriam H. Arndt, Jr. of Spring Twp; Linda L., widow of William L. Didyoung, Jr. of Richmond Twp.; Kathy L. Arndt, wife of Zenen Vega of Reading; Gilbert A., Jr., husband of Diane F. Arndt of Ontelaunee Twp; Eugene Swavely of Kempton and Abner Arndt of Fleetwood.

Other survivors include 42 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren and a few great-great-great grandchildren.

Meriam was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters; her grandson, Luis S. Arndt, who died in 1995 and her great grandson, Jared W. Barlet who died in 2006.

Services will be Monday at 7 p.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be private in Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.
