Melvin M. Althouse

Melvin Marlin Althouse, 63, died on November 18, 2007 at 6:40 a.m. in his Jefferson Township residence.

He was the husband of Lucille E. (Snyder) Althouse whom he married October 29, 1967.

Born in Reading on February 4, 1944, he was a son of the late Peter W. and Anna (Mull) Althouse.

Melvin was employed by Acme Roofing, Reading for twelve years, Yuasa Battery for ten years and Yorgeys Enterprises Inc., Reading for 5 years before retiring in June of 2006.

He is also survived by four sons; Michael D., Sr., husband of Jill Snyder of Strausstown; Jack L. Snyder, companion of Charolette Moyer of Cumru Township; Larry M. husband of Beverly S. (Frymoyer) Althouse of Reading and Timothy Althouse of Bernville and two daughters; Georgine L. (Althouse) Ansel, companion of Richard Farrington of Peach Bottom Township, PA, York County and April M. (Althouse) wife of Ronnie Heister of Laureldale.

Other survivers include five sisters; Mamie (Althouse) Randazoo of Reading, Nora M. (Althouse) Snyder of Reading, Rosie M. (Althouse) Schumbach of Exeter Township and Joyce (Althouse) Randazoo of Mexico.

There are eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary J. (Althouse) Seitz.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
