Melvin W Bachman Jr.

Melvin "Mel" W. "Skip" Bachman, Jr., 76, passed away on September 2, 2026, at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Carol Ann (Auchenbach) Bachman. They shared 55 wonderful years together.

Mel was born at the Reading Hospital to Melvin W. Bachman, Sr. and Ruth I. (McElrath) Bachman. Skip graduated from Reading High Night School. He worked in the maintenance department for the French Creek State Park.

As expected from a career out in nature, Skip spent much of his time fishing and hunting. Bow season was his favorite with muzzle loader a close second. He collected rifles and knives. Mel was more than an avid outdoorsman; he was a jack of all trades able to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He could sketch, figure out technology with ease, and was handy around the house.

Skip is survived by his wife, Carol, daughters, Lisa A. Bachman of Wyomissing and Michaelle M. Slapkowski (Tom) of Reading, grandchildren: Codie A. and Corey D. Krick and Collin Haddock, great- grandchildren, Arabella R. and Bentley A. Krick and sisters, Dolores Bernet of Sinking Spring and Marlene Horst (Harvey) of Narvon.

He was predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Felicia Krick.

The funeral will be held Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading. The viewing will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
