Maurice P. Hughes, retired travel-agency owner, died Sept. 2 at 6:40 a.m. in ManorCare Health Services Inc., Muhlenberg Township, where he had resided since Aug. 12.
Hughes, 88, Wyomissing, was predeceased by his wife, Dorothea C. (Carley) Hughes, on Aug. 14, 2002.
He was the owner-operator of Roamer Tours and Travel, Wyomissing, for 40 years, retiring in 2002.
Born in Armagh, Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late Patrick and Ellen (McGarvey) Hughes.
Hughes was a past president of the National Tour Association.
He was a 1933 graduate of Lakewood (N.J.) High School and attended Albright College.
Hughes was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield.
Surviving is a daughter, Sheila H. (Hughes) Stewart, Bernville.
Other survivors include a sister, Maureen (Hughes) Taylor, Leesport; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
