Maurice S. Cooper

Maurice S. Cooper, 87, passed away April 26, 2011 in his Laureldale residence.

He was the husband of Elsie Ellen (Lutz) Cooper, whom he married June 28, 1947.

Born April 16, 1924 in Robeson Township, he was a son of the late Samuel and Gertrude (Schweitzer) Cooper.

Maurice was employed with Birdsboro Steel, Graffius Burial Vault Company, Robeson Township Roadcrew, Grace Mines and Empire Steel. He held his longest employment with Grace Mines as a blaster for twenty years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in The Battle of the Buldge and served in the medical corps, earning a bronze star and a purple heart.

Maurice was a member of Robeson Lutheran Church, Plowville.

Also surviving are two children: Dennis R., husband of Kathy L. (Borrell) Cooper of Lincoln Park and Donna M. (Cooper), wife of Richard W. Long of Perry Township.

In addition he is survived by a granddaughter, Jessica A. Long.

Maurice was predeceased by two brothers.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
