Mary G. Thorne

Mary G. (Bortzel) Thorne, 80, of 622 Crescent Ave., Northmont, Reading, Pa 19605, died February 27th at 9:55 pm in her residence.

She was the wife of John F. Thorne, Jr.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Frederick J. and Geneva (Weiss) Bortzel.

She was a 1941 graduate of St. Peter's High School, Reading and attended McCann's School of Business, Reading.

Thorne worked for five years as a bookkeeper and secretary for Great Valley Bank before retiring in 1985.

She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church.

Thorne is also survived by a son, John F. III, husband of Mary L. (Seward) Thorne of Birdsboro and a daughter, Kathleen M. (Thorne) wife of Steven Hochman of Chevy Chase, Maryland.

She is also survived by a brother, John J. Bortzel of Lewes, Delaware, five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church. Viewing Wednesday 8:30 to 9:30 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. Contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 40 Berkshire Court, Wyomissing, Pa 19610.
