Mary Wanneita (Murphy) Maurer, 82, of Heidelberg Township, died July 10, 2008 in the St. Joseph Medical Center, where she had been since Wednesday.

She was married June 24, 1961 to the late Samuel H. Maurer, who died in January 1969.

Born July 4, 1926 in Preston, Maryland, she was a daughter of the late Robinson Lee and Nellie (Beckwith) Murphy.

She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Whitfield.

Mary was a 1945 graduate of Beacon Business School, Wilmington, Delaware.

She and her late husband owned and operated Charcoal Chef in Exeter Township and also The White House and Furnace Creek Inn of Robesonia.

Mary was the first female president of the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association.

She was also a past officer and 60 year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Berks County Chapter.

Mary is survived by two grandchildren: Colin E. Presby of Heidelberg Township and Megan V. Presby of Cambridge, Maryland.

She is also survived by a son-in-law: Philip E. Presby of Bern Township.

Mary was predeceased by a daughter: Marcia M. (Maurer) Presby, who died September 15, 2001 and by a brother, Oliver Murphy.

Services will be held Friday at 10:00 am in St. Alban's Church, 2848 St. Alban's Drive, Sinking Spring, PA 19608 with the Rev. Karl L. Kern officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services in the Church. Burial will be in St. John's (Hain's) Church Cemetery, Lower Heidelberg Township. Edward J.
