Mary E. Kershner, 97, a long time resident of West Reading, died February 15 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Born on her family's farm in Shartlesville, Pennsylvania, she is the last of Irwin H. and Maggie Lesher's eight children. Her husband, Paul L. Kershner, died in 1974. She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Reading.

Mary held a number of jobs in Reading's then bustling manufacturing sector, including the Berkshire Knitting Mills, Penn Optical and Willson Products, Inc., which is now the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts.

She loved needlework and won a ribbon at the Reading Fair for her embroidered and appliquéd quilt. She played the piano and loved to listen to classical music.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Lorraine Fishback of Alexandria, Virginia, a son, Ronald Kershner of Hockessin, Delaware, two grandsons, Jason Kershner of Ewa Beach, Hawaii and Seth Kershner of Lee, Massachusetts, and a great granddaughter, Kalyn Kershner of Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Friends may call from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private in Pleasant View Cemetery. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
