Mary P. (Paris) Horner, 88 formerly of Wyomissing, died Sunday morning, April 18th at Fairfax INOVA Hospital in Fairfax VA.

Mary was the wife of Jim Horner who passed on May 4, 1999.

For the past three and a half years Mary has been living in Northern Virginia near her three sons (Richard, Rusty and Tom) and their wives and families.

Born in Rochester, NY on May 15, 1921, Mary was the daughter of the late Massimino Paris and Pasqualina Bonaldi both formerly of Celano, Italy.

After graduating high school Mary continued her studies at Strayer College and George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Before getting married to James Horner on May 9, 1949 at Ft. Myer Chapel in Arlington, VA, Mary was employed in the Office of the Governor for the Legal Department of the Federal Home Loan Bank.

Mary took flying lessons during WWII with the idea of getting accepted into the "WAAFS", however she was not able to get in enough flying hours because she was doing a great deal of volunteering for the Red Cross and Bolling Airfield.

While raising her family in Wyomissing, Mary served on the following Board of Directors for: Wyomissing Public Library, Women's Board, Reading Hospital Advisory Board, Holy Name High School, Docent-Reading Public Museum, Berks County Senior Citizens Council, Berks County Chairman-Cub Scouts and Chairman-Heart Drive for the County.

Mary is survived by three sons, Richard, husband of Susanna Horner, James Russell, husband of Yvonne Horner and Thomas, husband of Liz Horner all of whom are living in Northern Virginia.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Ginny, Spencer, Katie, Max, Rebecca, Sarah, Jessica and Maria.

Mary is predeceased by two brothers, Carl Paris and Donald Paris.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 8th at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Gethsemane Cemetery. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Dayspring Homes, Inc., in honor of Mary Horner, P.O. Box 158, Shillington, PA 19607-0158. Dayspring was founded in 1991 by Sister Francis Bisland. Dayspring grew out of the need to support persons with special needs as they reached young adulthood or could no longer remain at home. Dayspring continues to embrace the Christian ideal of realizing the God-given potential and dignity of every human person. Dayspring Homes, Inc. is a nonprofit organization.
