Mary E. Gunning

Mary E. Gunning, 92, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully January 10, 2015 in Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, surrounded by her loving family.

Her husband of 45 years, James H. Gunning, passed away June 15, 1988.

Born May 9, 1922 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Herbert and Blanche (Ritchie) Comeau.

Mary dedicated her career to raising her six children. She worked outside the home during WWII, doing intricate work on altimeters at General Electric for the war effort.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield.

Mary was a movie aficionado, particularly of movies from the 30's and 40's. She had a lifelong interest in politics, and her fashion sense was unrivaled.

She is survived by her five children: Joyce M., wife of George Shank, Mill Valley, CA; Sheila R. Gunning, Lawrenceville, NJ; James H. Gunning, Jr., Grand Canyon, AZ; Philip, husband of Cynthia Gunning, Sinking Spring; and Patricia A. Gunning, West Lawn. Also surviving are her sisters: Jean P. Banks, Saugus, MA, and Joan Belanger, Keene, NH, and numerous nieces and nephews. Eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren also survive her.

Mary was predeceased by her son, Francis X. Gunning, and her sister, Eileen Gardner.
