Mary Ellen Hivner

Mary Ellen (Felix) Hivner, 85, passed away peacefully, Saturday February 2, 2013 at Tarzana Reginal Medical Center Tarzana, CA.

Born June 14, 1927 in Waynesboro PA to the late Lester and Genevieve (Geeseman) Felix.

She graduated from Reading High School in 1945. She retired from Hotel Management ..having opened the Riveredge and the former Reading Motor Inn and various other hotels in the area.

She moved from Wyomissing PA to Calabasas CA in 1999, where she helped care for her grandchildren.

She was an advocate and supporter of pediatric cancer research, having helped nurse two of her grandchildren through the disease.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years Robert R, Hivner, whom she married May 17, 1954 in Elton Maryland.

She is survived by her children; Bradley L., husband of Christine Brickel, of Wyomissing; David R., husband of Marilyn Brickel, of Exeter Township; Andrew R., husband of Betsy Hivner, of Shillington; Brett, husband of Sherry Jo Hivner, of Wernersville and Tracey, wife of David Buelow, of Calabasas CA.

She has 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four siblings: Janet (Felix) Goodman and Louise (Felix) Senander, Lloyd Felix and P. Richard Felix.

She was the last of her generation.

She was also predeceased by 2 Beloved Grandchildren: Maximillian Buelow age 11 , in 2006 and Glen D. Brickel age 41 in 2012. She will be remembered for her extreme kindness and her willingness to help any one who needed her.

She gave of herself effortlessly. Her family was her greatest GIFT in life and her friends all became family, which she was so proud to be called "MOM " by many.

Remembrance and Celebration of Mary Ellen's life will be held Sunday Feb. 17. 2013 at 3:00 pm at Edward Kuhn Funeral Home 739 Penn Ave. West Reading PA 19611.
