Mary Barthel

Mary L. (DeCindio) Barthel, 86, formerly of Mohnton, and a resident of Manor at Market Square, Reading, passed May 17, 2016.

She was the wife of William V. Barthel, whom she married on September 27, 1952.

Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband by one week.

Born in Brockton, PA, Mary was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Donato and Filamena (Carlone) DeCindio.

Mary was an excellent seamstress and cook, she loved animals of all kinds, and greatly enjoyed trips to Atlantic City casinos.

She is survived by three children: William Barthel, Mohnton; Marie, wife of David Setley, Mohnton; and Donna, wife of Rick Sager, McCloud, CA. Other survivors include her four grandchildren: Jessica (Setley) Long; Kelly (Setley) Keim; Scott and Madison Sager; three great-grandchildren: Brooke and Breckin Keim; and Roslyn Long; sister-in-law, Jean DiCindio, widow of John, West Patterson, NJ; Helen DeCindio, widow of Daniel DeCindio; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Tina.

Mary is also predeceased by her sister, Amelia, and brothers; John, Joseph, Daniel, and Eugene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, 42 Kerrick Road, Shillington. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township. A visitation will be held from 9:30-10 a.m. in the church. Edward J.
