Mary Alice Wertz

Mary Alice Wertz,84 of Hamburg, PA, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Thursday, May 14,2021.

Mary Alice was the widow of Joseph S Wertz who she married in 1962.

She was born in Reading and was the daughter of Raymond and Anna M (Eisenhour) Zweir.

Mary Alice was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in 1954. She went on to graduate from St Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1957.

Mary Alice began work as an Operating Room nurse for the former St Joseph Hospital in Reading,Pa. She then went on to work as a secretary for Randall R Rentschler,Inc,, Lesher's Appliances and as a tax clerk for Charles Hafer in Hamburg. Mary Alice was also a long time member of The Hamburg Zoning Hearing Board retiring only recently.

She was quite active as a volunteer with Covenant Hospice, and was a volunteer and greeter at St Mary Roman Catholic Church in Hamburg. She also was a member of The Quilt Club and Kindred Hearts Too.

Mary Alice is survived by her 2 sons, Joseph S Jr., husband of Renee (Palar) Wertz and Matthew A Wertz,husband of Mary Jo (Nelabovige), Waynesboro, GA. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Sylvia N., Matthew A II, Jacob S, Michelle A and Michael F Eicher. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Eleanor A, wife of James N Chett, Bernville, PA and Margaret J wife of Phillip LaBranche, Williamsburg, VA

A mass of Christian Burial will take place at St Mary Roman Catholic Church ,Hamburg, Pa on Thursday ,May 20. There will be a visitation at the church beginning at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.

Burial will be at Fort Indiantown Gap at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St Mary Building Fund would be appreciated.
