Martin Earl Snyder, Sr.

Martin Earl Snyder, Sr., 72, of Oley, passed away May 14, 2014 in St. Joseph Medical Center.

He was the husband of Linda Lou (Ulrich) Snyder, whom he married almost 53 years ago on October 14, 1961.

Born July 1, 1941, in Oley he was a son of the late Eugene Francis and Marguerite (Steininger) Snyder.

Martin was a 1959 graduate of Oley High School.

He was a machinist, working for Reading Railroad and then Conrail/Norfolk Southern , retiring, after 33 years, in 2003.

Martin was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was a member of Huguenot Masonic Lodge 0377.

Martin enjoyed working with his hands and tinkering on old cars. He was an avid Philadelphia Flyers, NASCAR and Dale Ernhart, Sr. fan and liked riding motorcycles. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his three children: Martin E., Jr., husband of Susan Snyder, Ruscombmanor Township; Kathryn, wife of David Linderman, Reading; and Billie Jo, wife of Sean Backenstoss, Exeter. Also surviving are his brothers: Theodore Snyder, Oley; Kermit Snyder, Oley, Stuart Snyder, Fleetwood, and Kenneth Snyder, Topton. Eight grandchildren: Tanya Boulden, Casey Snyder, Faith Snyder, Jared Snyder, Michael Linderman, Eric Linderman, Dylann Backenstoss, and Colt Backenstoss; and four great-grandchildren also survive him.

Martin was predeceased by his son, Kenneth M. Snyder, June 6, 2012. He was also predeceased by his siblings: Eugene Snyder, Jr., Donald Snyder, and Patricia Gift.

Services will be Sunday at 7 p.m. in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 423 Main St., Oley, PA 19547. A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
