Martha J. (Stitzel) Schappell Woodhouse, 86, died December 17, 2011 in her Palm Beach Gardens, FL residence.

She was widowed by her first husband, Marvin C. Schappell, on November 21, 1991 and by her second husband, Frederic W. Woodhouse, on February 29, 2008.

Born August 5, 1925 in Hamburg, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Emma M. (Henne) Stitzel.

Martha was a 1943 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1946 graduate of Bloomsburg University, earning a B.S. in Elementary and Special Education.

Her career as a teacher in elementary and special education spanned five years with Mt. Penn School District and 28 years with Broward County School District, FL.

Martha was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg, PA and Palm Beach Gardens Christ Fellowship Church, Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Surviving are three sons: Maurie S., husband of Diane Schappell of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Marc P. Schappell of New York City and Washington, D.C. and Martin C., husband of Janet Schappell of Ft. Myers, FL and their two children, Lindsay and Matthew.

Martha was predeceased by a brother, William J. Stitzel.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading.
