Martha S. Gilbert

Martha Susanna (Hess) Gilbert, 99, formerly of Camp Hill, died March 25, 2008 at 8:10 a.m. in Berks County Home - Berks Heim, Reading.

She was the widow of Harry D. Gilbert, Jr. who died March, 1988.

Born November 26, 1908 in Sunbury, PA, she was a daughter of the late David Grove and Dora Leona (Geiger) Hess.

Martha was employed by the William Jones Agency as a clerk for 30 years.

Surviving is a son Harry D., III., husband of Joy S. (Daniels) Gilbert of Rimrock, AZ and a daughter, Marcie J.(Gilbert), wife of the late Robert L. Ramsey of Enola, PA.

In addition there are two sisters, Gladys (Hess) Young of Magnolia, TX and Romayne (Hess) Jones of Mechanicsburg, PA.

She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 34 great-great grandchildren and one great-great-great granddaughter.

She was predeceased by a son, Charles H. Gilbert, a granddaughter Linda S. Gilbert, a grandson, Barry J. Gilbert, and two great-great grandchildren.

Martha was also predeceased by a brother David Hess and four sisters, Katherine (Hess) Larson, Mary (Hess) Smeltzer, Edna (Hess) Woomer and Marion (Hess) Odenkirk.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Shiremanstown United Methodist Church, 125 E. Main Street, Shiremanstown, PA 17011. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shiremanstown United Methodist Church at the above address.
