Martha H. Ireland

Martha H. Ireland, 98, of Wyomissing, died September 6, 2010.

She was the widow of Frederick L. Ireland.

Born in Exeter Twp., she was the daughter of the late Samuel F. and Amelia (Rothermel) Happel.

She was a graduate of Shippensburg University.

Mrs. Ireland was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, where she was also an elementary school teacher for 17 years. In addition to teaching at the parish school, she was a member of: the bridge club, senior citizens club and the former Sacred Heart Society.

She was an avid reader and execiser, and did the daily crossword puzzle.

Mrs. Ireland was entered into the PA Voter Hall of Fame for 50 years of voting consecutively in the November elections.

She is survived by her three children, F. Jere Ireland, Reading, Christine I., widow of R. Peter Shaplin, Glen Mills, and Marcia I., wife of John P. Schreffler, Wyomissing. Six grandchildren, Dr. Michael J. Schreffler, Andrew J., husband of Kelly Schreffler, Brynne E., wife of Chad Alban, Rebecca, wife of Steve Ferenchick, Anne Tiffany, wife of Matthew Ryan and Peter C., husband of Pam Shaplin; and nine great-grandchildren, Andrew J. Schreffler, Jr., Penelope A. Schreffler, Benjamin E. Alban, Carson A. Alban, Eleanor C. Ferenchick, Katherine L. Ferenchick, Samuel J. Ferenchick, Matthew P. Ryan and Mary Katherine Ryan also survive her.

The family would like to thank the Staffs at Berks Hematology-Oncology, Reading Hospital Infusion Center and the Berkshire Center for the campassionate care given her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a. m. in Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
