Martha Laverne Devenny

M. LaVerne Devenny, 86, of Wernersville, passed away peacefully at home on June 7, 2024.

She was born in North Braddock, PA to the late Stephen and Martha (Flint) Kravesky.

LaVerne graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and completed her master's degree in education at the University of Iowa. Teaching was her passion. She spent much of her long career as an elementary school teacher in Iowa.

She was deeply devoted to her faith in Jesus and her love of the Eucharist. After moving to the Reading area, she faithfully attended mass at St. Ignatius Loyola Church.

Left to treasure LaVerne's memory are her children: Robert Devenny of Hollywood, CA; Theresa M. Oxley of Wernersville, with whom she resided; and William Devenny, Jr. , husband of Michelle Devenny, of Edgewater, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason Oxley, Tara Davis, Danielle Devenny, and Christopher Devenny; her great-grandchildren, Jasper and Sylvie Oxley and Trent, Maria, Gabriel, Benedict, Carmella, Lucia, Lydia, Bartholomew, and Litany Davis; and her sister, Joan Filipich.

In addition to her parents, LaVerne was predeceased by her sister, Frances Flint, and her former husband, William Devenny.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2600 St Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609, with committal to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
