Martha C. Davis

Martha Catherine Davis (Gram), passed peacefully on December 8, 2023, at the age of 96. She went home to join husband of 73 years, Walter Harry Davis (Pop), and daughter Catherine Marie Sublette.

Growing up, Martha was the oldest child with three younger sisters, Yvonne Hoover, Marian Malick, Carole Eastman and one brother, Dennis Raho. Family was always her first priority, leaving an astounding legacy of 7 children: Ginny Smith, F. Kenneth Davis, Carl J. Davis, Martha Ann Davis-McGaw, Timothy P. Davis and Loretta Hutchinson; 22 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren!! who have all benefited immensely from her thoughtful guidance and wisdom.

She spent her life dedicated to her community at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and elementary school, and Holy Name High School in West Reading, PA. Through her work as a supervisor at the Catholic Social Agency in Reading, PA, she assisted countless individuals and families to find independence and economic security.

She was also an active member of the Residence Committee at the Heritage. Martha loved dealing with bylaws and implementing Robert's Rules of Order! :-)

Age didn't slow Martha. Gram and Pop enjoyed a professional ballroom dancing career for many years. Always working to keep mentally active, Mahjong was a favorite activity she enjoyed weekly with a group of fellow residents. For the last five years she was a member of the Heritage Hotties, a group of senior women cheerleaders. They were invited to perform on TV in Philadelphia in October, receiving attention from several media outlets, who all cited the fact that their oldest member, Martha Davis, was 96 years old. Go Gram!

A haiku poem dedicated to Martha Catherine:

Forever in our hearts,

Dancing with the angels now

Mom is home with Pop
