Martha Canouse

Martha Canouse, 90, of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and formerly of West Lawn, PA, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. She was the widow of Harry D. Canouse, who passed away on March 19, 1988.

Born in Berwick to the late Fred and Alice (Kochman) Starvatow, graduated from Bloomsburg University with her Bachelor's of Education. She was a primary school teacher for the Reading School District, teaching at Riverside Elementary School.

Family was very important to Martha. She loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she loved to exchange photos with family and friends and never forgot a birthday. Her text messages were always sent with perfect grammar, just like a school teacher. Martha enjoyed reading on her Kindle and sitting on the beach, soaking in the Florida sunshine.

For over 35 years Martha's partner Dave Carty of Port Saint Lucie has loved and supported her, and she treasured their time together, especially when traveling across the globe. Dave and Martha loved going on their daily lunch dates and spending time together. Many memories were shared together at Lake Wallenpaupack and in Florida. Martha's family is grateful for the many years of companionship Dave shared with Martha.

Left to cherish Martha's memory is her son, Gregory Canouse, husband of Yong Ee; grandchildren: Kyle Oster, Chelsea Pine, Russell Canouse, Riley Canouse, Jordan Canouse, and Jeremy Canouse; great grandchildren: Jack Pine, Charleston Pine, Christian Canouse, Elouise Canouse, Rosalie Canouse, and Leilani Oster; and sister, Mary Eveland.

In addition to her husband, Harry, and her parents, Fred and Alice, Martha was predeceased by her son, Martin Canouse.

Services for Martha will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611, with committal to follow at Laureldale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
