Mark J. Powers

Mark J Powers Jr, 81, passed away at home in Strasburg VA, December 28, surrounded by family and friends. He will be buried in Gethsemane Cemetery alongside his late brother Stephen.

He is survived by his wife Dianne, son David, and loving grandchildren Nicholas and Allison, and his sisters Patricia, Michelle and brothers John, and David.

The son of Alice and Mark Powers and stepmother Margaret (Peggy) Powers, he was born in Harrisburg. He attended Muhlenberg High School then Kutztown University in the studies of economics. After college, Mark was in the Army at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs.

He raised his family in Reading, PA where he worked at Berks County Prison until his retirement in June of 1999, when he and his wife, Dianne moved to Virginia to be with their grandchildren.

Mark then went back to work as the security manager of INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital for over 8 years. He then retired to enjoy his days close to his family in Strasburg VA.

Services will be held at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading on Friday, January 10, 2024 with visitation from 10am to 11am with service at 11am, followed by a procession to Gethsemane Cemetery for burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for contributions to Blue Ridge Hospice.
