Mark Alan Hafer

Mark Alan Hafer, 53, formerly of Fleetwood, died May 21, 2014, in California after a long battle with bipolar depression.

Born in Reading, he was the son of Walter W. and Lorraine G, (Dunn) Hafer, Fleetwood.

He was a graduate of Brandywine Heights High School in 1979 and the University of Pittsburgh in 1983; he also took courses at Carnegie Mellon.

Mark had worked locally in the advertising department for Boscov's stores and later for the Reading Eagle in computer graphics. He then worked for the Los Angeles Times from 1994-2012 during which time he was awarded a Pulitizer Prize for his graphics on the Northridge Bank robbery shoot out. He was also credited with additional awards in newspaper competitions.

Mark was admired and respected by his peers for his dedication, diligence and commitment to detail. He will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and generosity.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Michele M., wife of Steve McDermott, Stamford CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Margaret's RCC, 925 Centre Avenue, Reading, PA 19601. Friends and Family may call from 8:30 to 10:15 prior to the mass. Committal will be held in the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery.
