Mark R. Guthrie, Sr., 93, formerly of Shillington, died May 20, 2009 in Mifflin Center.
His wife, Leonora F. (Spotts) Guthrie, died October 13, 2007.
Born in Nuremberg, Schuylkill Co. he was the son of the late Hiram and Verna (Sanders) Guthrie.
He was a graduate of Susquehanna University, earning his BS in Business Education.
Mr. Guthrie was a business teacher at Reading High School for 30 years, retiring in 1975.
He was a WW II veteran, serving in the U. S. Army as a Master Sergeant; later, as a reservist, he was called upon once again to serve his country during the Korean War.
Mr. Guthrie loved sports, especially the Eagles, Phillies and Sixers. He was also a great gardener.
He is survived by his son, Mark R., Jr., husband of Susan Guthrie, West Lawn and his sister, Esther, wife of Lee Dubendorf, Lewisburg. Two grandchildren, Becky Guthrie and Danny Guthrie also survive him.
Friends may call Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with services to follow at 11:30 in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Inurnment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Mausoleum.
