Marilyn Joyce (Wertz) McGrath, 77, of Spring Township died November 20, 2012 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.

She was the wife of Rodney L. "Rod" McGrath whom she married June 15, 1957.

Born May 25, 1935 in West Reading, she was a daughter of the late Mervin J. and Jeannette (Geise) Wertz.

She was a 1953 graduate of West Reading High School and a 1957 graduate of Albright College, where she was President of her sorority, Phi Beta Mu and a cheerleader and field hockey player. She earned outstanding athlete of the year.

Marilyn was employed as an elementary school teacher in New York and Connecticut for a few years, and subsequently at Schuylkill Valley School District for 25 years, retiring in 1989. In 1989, she founded East-West Therapeutic Massage and School of Massage Therapy, Wyomissing.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Wyomissing.

Marilyn was a member and officer of the Flying Dutchman Ski Club.

She enjoyed playing tennis and drawing.

Marilyn was a Reiki Master.

Also surviving are three children: Susan M. McGrath of Newmanstown, Elizabeth A. McGrath and Rodney L. McGrath, both of Spring Township.

There are also two grandchildren surviving: Harry A. Naumann and Jackson G. Brubaker.

Marilyn was predeceased by a brother, Mervin G. Wertz who died April 25, 1989.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
