Marilyn A. Althouse

Marilyn A. (Balthaser) Althouse, 81 passed away September 19, 2013, in Kindred Care, Wyomissing. Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Balthaser) Schappell and the late Lamar Stellfox. She was the beloved mother of Kathy A. (Althouse) Hill, wife of Edward B. Hill, Exeter Township, with whom she last resided. She is also survived by her beloved granddaughters, Kelly L. Johnson, a student at Ursinus College, and Laura K. Johnson at home. Also surviving are her step-grandchildren, Angel Fisher of San Antonio, Texas, Nicole Hill and Chad Hill of Reading, and a step-great-granddaughter, Aubrey Hill. She was a 1950 graduate of Perry Township High School, where she was valedictorian. She was also valedictorian of the Class of 1951 at Reading Business Institute. She also attended RACC. She was a private music instructor for more than 60 years. She was very proud of her students. She also was organist and choir director of numerous Berks County churches, most recently at Calvary United Methodist Church, Wyomissing, where she was a member. She was an insurance agent and financial consultant for many years. She also had been a tour escort for Roamer Tours and Boscov's Travel. She was a secretary at Berks County Intermediate Unit for several years, and early in her career she was a secretary at Glidden Co. Besides her love of music, she loved to travel and has visited many states and several countries. She had an adventurous spirit and loved life. She loved her family and many friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church, 831 North Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Zions Church Cemetery, Windsor Castle (Hamburg), PA. Burkey and Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc., Hamburg is in charge of arrangements.
