Marietta Smolicz

Sister Marietta Smolicz, 94, of the Bernardine Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, died of natural causes on Friday evening, July 28, 2023, at St. Joseph Villa, Reading, PA, where she had resided since 2014.

Born in Lozawicze, Poland, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia (Lucewicz) Smolicz.

Sister Marietta entered the Bernardine Sisters on August 11, 1948, and was in her 75th year of religious life. Sister earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Medical College of Virginia. She served her ministry in Maryland, Pennsylvania, South Dakota and Virginia as a nurse aide, nurse, supervisor, health education teacher, nursing supervisor, and superior.

Sister is survived by the members of her Bernardine Franciscan Congregation. There are no surviving immediate family members.

Viewing at St Joseph Villa, Reading, PA on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Mass on Friday, August 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Villa Chapel, Reading, PA followed by burial in the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters' Cemetery, Mount Alvernia, Reading, PA.
