Marie E. Wertz

Marie Elizabeth (Aschenbrenner) Wertz, 96, died February 21, 2008 at 11:45 am in her Laureldale Borough residence.

She was married September, 1934 to the late James Wellington Wertz, who died February 1, 1967.

Born in Williamsport, PA on October 7, 1911 to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Petree) Aschenbrenner.

She was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

Marie and her husband built the Pleasant Hills Golf Course, Maidencreek Township in 1939 and ran it for 48 years, before retiring in 1987.

She is survived by three children; Doris M. Wertz of Laureldale, Jean A. Leininger and Joan E. wife of Julian McCracken all of Phoenixville, Chester County.

Other survivors include five grandchildren; Marcia L. (Leininger) Riggs of Meadville, Crawford County; Kirsten L. (Leininger) Bryan of Windber, Cambria County; Gretchen J. (Leininger) Gorman of Douglassville, Berks County; Eric S. Leininger of Pottstown, Montgomery County and Murray I. Hoffman of Muhlenberg Township.

There are also 13 great grandchildren.

Marie was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Wertz on December 2004 and four siblings; Roberta Druckenmiller, Josephine Biehl, John Aschenbrenner and Harold Aschenbrenner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Hyde Park. A viewing will be held Sunday 6:30 - 8:00 pm in Walter R.
