Marie T. Maggiaro

Marie T. Maggiaro, 96, passed away late the evening of Tuesday, July 13, 2021, in the care of Mifflin Center. She was the loving widow of Anthony Maggiaro, who passed away in 1984 after 23 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Marie was a daughter of the late Ronald and Amelia (Amini) DeComa. At 18, Marie took a position at the American Telephone and Telegraph Company where she worked for nearly 20 years before leaving to raise her family.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.

A community-minded woman, Marie was very involved in a number of organizations in the Reading area, including the Olivet Boys' & Girls' Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Victor Emmanuel II Society's Ladies Auxiliary (where she was a founding member of the Scholarship Committee), the National Shut-in Society, and the Columbus Day Committee, in addition to others.

Marie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She celebrated her Italian heritage through a tradition of cooking and folk dance.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Thomas (Renee L.) of Leesport and Ronald of Reading. She is also survived by her grandsons Anthony R. and Matthew, both of Leesport. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Anthony Jr., her brother Ronald DeComa Jr., and sister Betty Ann Casey.

Marie's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Mifflin Court, Mifflin Center, and Compassus Hospice for the care they provided to their mother and grandmother when her family could no longer care for Marie themselves.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Ganser at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Holy Rosary Church, 237 Franklin St., Reading, with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 9:00 AM until the beginning of Mass.
