Marie A. Burkey

Marie A. Burkey, 91 formerly of Perry Township died August 6 in The Reading Hospital & Medical Center. She was the widow of Lewis P. Burkey, Jr. who died June 26, 1992. Marie was born in Windsor Township and was the daughter of the late Jacob R. and Minnie L. (Merkel) Leiby. She was a 1936 graduate of Perry High School. Marie worked at the Hamburg Center for 16 years as a Residential Service Aide retiring in 1978. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ of Hamburg and the Ladies Auxiliary to Union Fire Company #1 of Hamburg. Marie is survived by 1 son, Dean L. husband of Patricia A. (Bausher) Burkey, Shoemakersville, 3 grandchildren, Christie wife of Bryan Smith, Brett Burkey both of Windsor Township and Tina Burkey, Hamburg, a step grandson, Tracy Burkey, Reading and 4 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Ruth C. Miller, Tilden Township. She was predeceased by a son, David L. on August 3, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 10, at 10:00 AM in the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. Hamburg. A viewing will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
