Marguerite L. Mcdermott

Marguerite L. (Spencer) McDermott, 92, formerly of Shillington, died April 18, 2017, at Elmcroft of Reading Personal Care Community.

She was the wife of Jerome McDermott. Recently they celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Roselen (Nangle) Spencer.

She was a 1945 graduate of St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.

Marguerite was employed by Dr. Charles Carabello as a registered nurse, retiring on May 11, 1958

After retirement she became a homemaker who was dedicated to her family; one of the best gifts she gave her children was staying at home to raise them.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: James J. McDermott; Michael J., husband of Maria McDermott; Marianne, wife of David McGoldrick; and Therese M., wife of Troy Matthew; and two siblings: Dorothy Simmons; and Edward Spencer. Nine grandchildren: James J., Lee Ann, Courtney and Colin McDermott; Kelly and Ashley McGoldrick; Austin and Matthew Taccetta; and Kayla Matthew, and one great-granddaughter, Blake also survive her.

Marguerite was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth Spencer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St John's Baptist de LaSalle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
