Margaretta Malsnee, 95, of Wernersville, passed away November 18, 2014 in Phoebe
Berks.
She was the wife of E. Bruce Malsnee, whom she married almost 70 years ago on
February 16, 1945.
Margaretta was born and raised in Williamsport, PA. She was a daughter of the
late Arthur V. and Louise (Holman) Ertel.
She graduated from Williamsport High School and then earned her R.N. degree from
Temple University School of Nursing in 1940.
Margaretta worked for Columbia University, NY, for a year and then joined the
Navy Nurse Corps in 1942. She was stationed at the Naval Hospital at Portsmouth,
VA and was then transferred to the Santa Margarita Ranch Naval Hospital, Camp
Pendleton, Oceanside, CA, where she met her husband, Bruce.
After retiring from the service she and Bruce moved to Reading to start a
family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother. After her children were
grown she and Bruce enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and parts of
Europe. They especially liked traveling to Quebec City, Canada.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children: Jon S.
Malsnee, widower of Bernice Malsnee, Wyomissing; Karen L. Furman,
Marlborough, MA; and Rebecca Malsnee-Fossett, wife of Carroll A. Fossett, Jr.,
Wyomissing. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Margaretta was predeceased by her sister, Miriam Ogdahl.
A Prayer Service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home,
Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to
11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Schwarzwald Cemetery, Exeter
Township. Contributions may be made to Berks Visiting Nurse Association, 1170
