Margaret E. "Peg" Tucker, 104, died July 26, 2015, at The Highlands of Wyomissing.
Margaret was born to Margaret F. and James J. English in Newburgh, New York, on June 5, 1911. She had three brothers, James Jr., Thomas and Revered Joseph, who was a member of the Maryknoll Foreign Mission Society.
She graduated with honors from the College of New Rochelle in New Rochelle, New York in 1933. After graduation, Peg worked as a dietician in the Connecticut school system and then in New York as a food administrator and marketing consultant. Then she married William B. Tucker of Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1936. They had four sons Thomas (Donna), Richard (late Claire), William Jr. (Constance), and James.
Peg enjoyed volunteer work at her church and schools and for more than thirty years at St. Joseph's Hospital and Reading Hospital. She was a board member of the American Cancer Society. While at Reading Hospital, she worked with dermatologists to educate women on early detection of breast cancer. Peg was the first woman elected to the Board of Directors at Alvernia College. Bill and Peg traveled extensively through many countries in Europe and throughout the United States. She devoted decades to her artwork, especially crewel, needlework, and oil painting. Her "Clown " has been on exhibit multiple times. Duplicate bridge played a major role in her life. She thoroughly enjoyed spending countless hours gardening. She was also interested in all sports. She felt she was truly blessed with wonderful memories and was extremely grateful for all her dear friends.
Most of all, Peg was proud of her family consisting of nine grandchildren (Cynthia, Meghan, John, Matt, Kristen, Kathleen, William III, Bryn and Ross) and 12 great grandchildren. She was devoted to her church.
