Margaret M. Hummel

Margaret M. Hummel, 81, passed away February 7, 2011 in Spruce Manor, West Reading.

Her husband, Thomas E. Hummel, died in 1998.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Samuel C. and Irene A. (Kline) Iaeger.

She was a 1947 graduate of Reading High School.

Margaret loved children; she was employed for 25 years by Northeast Child Care Center, Reading, retiring in 2004.

She was a champion volleyball player in her youth and as an adult loved crossword puzzles and animals. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

Margaret was a member of St. Paul's R.C. Church, Reading.

She is survived by her six children: Thomas P., husband of Sharon L. Hummel, Reading; Patrick J. Hummel, Reading; Michael J., husband of Donna L. Hummel, Reading; Gail C., wife of Martin A. Savage, Bethel; Kathleen J., wife of Michael C. Boland, Flying Hills and Anne E., wife of Rodney L. Wagner, Leesport. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Katherine, Anne, Megan, Kelly, Elizabeth, Amy, Matthew, Adrienne, Morgan, Tara, Michael and 7 great-grandchildren: Aidan, Owen, Thomas, Jessica, Jennifer, Nicholas and Angela.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Reichardt in 2002 and by her three siblings: Samuel, Irene and Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Cemetery Chapel, 3139 Kutztown Rd., Laureldale. A viewing will be Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 237 Court St., Reading, PA 19601.
