Margaret "Peggy" M. (McGinnis) Guinther, 93, formerly of West Wyomissing, passed away December 20, 2016, at Wellspan Ephrata Community Hospital.
She was the loving wife of Richard H. Guinther, who passed away in November of 1974.
Born in Philadelphia, Margaret was the daughter of the late Hugh J. and Catherine E. (McDonald) McGinnis.
She was a 1941 graduate of Little Flower High School in Philadelphia.
In her early years, Peggy had an active presence in the drum and bugle corps communities in Philadelphia and Reading, starting with The Yearsley Cadets, later Osmond, and finally with the West Reading Police Cadets. She was secretary to the regional Association of Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps.
Peggy worked as a secretary for the U.S. Army Air Corps, Department of Labor; later she became the president of the former Biehl's Auto Body on Centre Avenue in Reading from 1974 until her retirement in 1985.
Peggy enjoyed her happy retirement years with the West Lawn Senior Citizens Club. Peggy's love was spending time with her family, especially her yearly vacations with them to Wildwood, NJ. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by two daughters: Margaret Jane, wife of Charles W. Conrad; and Mary Ellen, wife of Joseph R. Valent. Five grandchildren: Richard Conrad and wife Dawn, Megan Conrad, Kyra Valent, Joseph P. Valent, and Jennifer Valent; and one great-grandson, Kevin Conrad also survive her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 23, at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 740 Cherry Street, West Reading, PA 19611. A viewing will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peggy's memory to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 6217, Reading, PA 19610. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge of the arrangements.
