Margaret Dugan

Margaret (Peggy) E. Dugan, age 58, of Cherry Hill, NJ, passed away Tuesday, July 19th, in Samaritan Hospice, Mt. Holly, NJ. Peggy was born in Reading on April 28, 1958, daughter of Helen A. (Gruber) and Anthony C. Dugan.

Peggy was a standout two sport athlete during her four years at Holy Name High School. On the basketball court and track, she was a force that demanded respect from her opponents. During her stellar basketball career, Peggy was considered one of the most dominant players in the league. A four year starter and letter winner, Peggy earned Most Valuable Player honors in 1975 and 1976. Peggy was named Holy Name High School's Most Outstanding Athlete in 1976. Berks County coaches unanimously voted her to the All Berks County team in 1975 and 1976. Peggy was also voted First Team All Girls' Suburban Athletic Conference. Despite the absence of the 3 point line, Peggy was the first female in the Berks County modern era to score 1,000 points in her career. Because of this outstanding accomplishment, her name will forever be visible in the Lloyd M. Wolf Gymnasium.

Peggy continued her basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh, playing for the Panthers from 1976-1980. She went on to become a member of the UConn Huskies Women's basketball coaching staff from 1980-1985.

Peggy was employed as a police officer in Coventry, Ct. Later, she worked for Home Depot as a loss prevention manager, eventually going on to become a Regional Manager. After her retirement from Home Depot, she was employed by Total Wine & More in Florida.

She considered playing and starting varsity basketball all four years her favorite memory of Holy Name.

Peggy is proud of the fact that her hard work allowed her to retire at the age of 43.

In addition to her parents, Peggy is survived by her three sisters, Patricia A., wife of Owen Behen; Mary Jo, wife of Francis Radka; and Kathy Dugan; nieces Rebecca, wife of James Chiarieri; and Jessica Radka; and nephew Christopher, husband of Kimberly Radka. She is also survived by great nephews Owen and Dylan Chiarieri, Brandon Pierce and great niece Hailey Radka.

Peggy was predeceased by her partner Linda Gottlieb and brother Michael A. Dugan.
