Magda Bertolet

Magda Yvonne Bertolet passed away peacefully in Wyomissing on December 19, 2025, at the age of 104. She was born November 6, 1921, in Casablanca, Morocco, North African Republic of France. After coming to this country in May 1946, she resided in Greenfields and most recently in Wyomissing and Vero Beach, Florida. She was the wife of Alfred ("Sime") Moser Bertolet for 64years, who predeceased her in 2010. Magda was the daughter of Rose Abad [nee] and Alfred L. Mazzuchetti. She had three children, Kathryn, [wife of Albert Golden, III] who predeceased her in 2012, Nadine, [wife of John P Weidenhammer], and Sime [husband of Jill Bertolet]. She has three granddaughters: Kate Goodman (wife of Laurence), Olivia Golden (wife of Mathew), and Daphne Fleck (wife of Jonathan), and five great grandchildren.

Magda's life reads like a novel. She was eyewitness to the Vichy/German occupation of Morocco beginning in 1940. She watched the Allied landing and the North African Campaign in November 1942 and vividly recalled the dropping of leaflets by the Allies throughout Casablanca announcing the coming liberation of Morocco. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Sime, at one of the many dances at the Air Transport Command Officer's Club in Casablanca. After the war, Magda and Sime became engaged and she embarked on her voyage to the United States aboard the Liberty Ship USS Lucretia Mott, docking in the port of Pensacola, FL. The happy couple flew to New Orleans where they married and honeymooned before making Reading their home.

Magda took an active part in the Berks County community volunteering for the (then) three hospitals' Thrift Shop as well as chairing the St. Joseph's Hospital Charity Ball.

A favorite hobby was antique hunting and Wednesdays were always reserved for Pennypacker Auctions.

She was a partner, along with her husband, in the formation of Public Aviation at the Reading Airport. Magda had a sharp wit and grand sense of humor; she loved a good laugh and saw humor in most every situation. Her home was a frequent stop for friends on the evening cocktail circuit, and her parties were legendary. She was a long-time member of the Berkshire Country Club where she and Sime enjoyed many Saturday night dinners with friends. Sadly, most of her many friends are deceased but she is still remembered by their children; the stories abound of her charm and French elegance.

The family wishes to thank her longtime caregiver, Kamala, for her devotion and loyalty to Magda who loved her dearly. We will be forever grateful to Kamala who provided love and comfort day in and day out.
