Mable M. (Kleinsmith) Schaner, 96, formerly of Hamburg, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Berks Heim where she resided. She was the beloved wife of LeRoy Schaner until his passing in 2000. Born in Old Zionsville, Lehigh County, PA, Mable was the daughter of the late William Kleinsmith, Jr. and Mary Helen (Moyer).
She worked at various Knitting Mills in Berks and Schuylkillcounties, until she was in her 80s. In her free time, she loved being out in her garden, planting everything from flowers to vegetables, and often used her growings in her cooking. She enjoyed reading a good book, watching bull riding, a game of pinochle or uno, and crafting, whether it was sewing, crocheting or quilt making. Most importantly, Mable loved being with her family. She was her children’s Den Mother for scouts for several years, and enjoyed getting together at family gatherings and reunions.
Mable’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Berks Heim unit B1, for the love and care they showed Mable in her time there.
Those cherishing Mable’s memory include her children: Helen Kogut (Ted), Carrie Resser (Russ), Ara Weller, Lee Schaner, Gene Schaner (Lori Kershner), Crystal Fisher (Bill); 18 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren; her sisters: Anges Keller, and Arelen Krause (Carl); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she joins in Heaven her daughter, Sharon (Lash) Geisinger; her brothers: Willard Kleinsmith, Elmer Kleinsmith, Raymond Kleinsmith, and Harold Kleinsmith; her sisters: Mary Breinsinger, Sara Kleinsmith, Rosie Reinert, and Lottie Bauer; as well as a great grandson.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory., 40 S. 4th St. Hamburg, PA 19526. Burial will be held privately.
