Mabel G. Bagenstose

Mabel G. (Herr) Bagenstose, 96, of West Reading, widow of former County Commissioner Donald W. Bagenstose, Sr., passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, in the Reading Hospital. Born on Valentine's Day, 1922 at home in South Heidelberg Township, she was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Ellen (Griffee) Herr.

A 1939 graduate of Schaefferstown High School, Mabel earned a BS in Nursing, and a Masters in Nursing Administration, both from the University of Pennsylvania. She worked for 17 years as Nursing Administrator for the Pennsylvania Department of Health Southeastern District and was Director of Public Health in the District for over eight years.

Mabel was a longtime member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing.

She is survived by: a brother, Alvin Herr, Schaefferstown; a niece, Theresa Klinger, West Reading; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Hix, Wyomissing, widow of Thomas H. Bagenstose; grandchildren Brittany and Thomas Bagenstose.; and great grandson Joseph T. Bagenstose. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, who died in 2004, Mabel was predeceased by their two sons: Thomas H. and Donald W. Bagenstose, Jr.

A memorial service for Mabel will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday, October 26, 2018 at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, with burial to follow at Epler's Church Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00am at the funeral home.
