Lucy M. Schuchman

Lucy M. Schuchman, 98, of Reading, died March 8, 2010 in the Golden Living Center.

She was the widow of Charles S. Schuchman, whom she married in 1950.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Fedele and Luisa (Catapano) Serpico.

Lucy worked for over 25 years as a telegram operator for Western Union. She lived in Brooklyn until 1998, at which time she relocated to Reading.

She was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, Spring Township.

She is survived by her son, Joseph F. Schuchman, Reading. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann, wife of Ronald J. Hough III, Pittsburgh and John Joseph Schuchman, Reading. She was a beloved Granny to: Margaret, Mary and Samuel. She will be dearly missed by her former daughter-in-law, Margaret Susan Kanowicz.

She is survived by her four nieces: Marjorie Irace, Louise Arienzo, Louise Stack and Kathleen McCormick, whose lives where enriched by Lucy's presence.

Lucy was predeceased by her eight siblings: Anna, Fred, John, Dan, Josephine, Margaret, Frank, and Jennie. She was also predeceased by her niece, Louise Serpico and her two nephews: Fred J. Serpico and Fred M. Serpico.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church 2810 St. Albans Dr., Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Friends may call 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
