Lucilla Cunliffe "Lucy," 95, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in the care of Phoebe Berks. She was the loving wife of 65 years to Bernard Cunliffe, who passed away on April 5, 2021.
Lucy was a compassionate registered nurse.
Born in England, Lucy was adopted by the late Dervis and Gertrude Franklyn. She met and married Bernard Cunliffe in Manchester, England, where they lived until emigrating to Ontario, Canada, in 1957. In 1973, they moved to Sparta, New Jersey. They retired to Tannersville, Pennsylvania, in 1995 and later relocated to Shillington, Pennsylvania, in 2009 to be closer to family.
Lucy loved all animals, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader. She was a proud Brit and especially enjoyed watching British television programs.
Left to treasure Lucy's memory are her children, Pamela Sachenik, widow of Michael Sachenik, and Andrew Cunliffe; and her grandchildren, Matthew, Daniel, and John. In addition to her husband, Lucy was predeceased by her son, Murray Cunliffe.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy will be celebrated on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2600 St. Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lucy's memory may be made to her parish, St. Ignatius of Loyola Roman Catholic Church, at the rectory address, 2810 St. Albans Drive, Reading, PA 19608, or to Phoebe Berks, phoebe.org.
