Lt. Col. John O. Davies, U. S. Air Force, Retired, formerly of San Antonio, TX, passed away in Freedom House at Blue Skies of Texas, San Antonio, Texas on July 23, 2021. He was the loving husband of Anne Davies for nearly 48 years since their wedding in November 1973.
Jack, as he was known to his friends and family, was born in Butler Township, PA, the son of J. Edgar and Martha (Soderlund) Davies.
Jack entered Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Texas in 1964, and graduated with a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1965. He continued his training in navigation and electronic warfare and had his first assignment as an Electronic Warfare Officer aboard the EB-66 Destroyer with the 41st Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing At Takhli Royal Thai AFB, Thailand from January 1967, until he was forced to eject over North Vietnam and was taken as a Prisoner of War on February 4, 1967. Captain Davies spent 2,207 days in captivity before being released during Operation Homecoming on February 18, 1973.
After recovering from his injuries, Captain Davies was accepted for Flight Training and earned his pilot wings at Williams AFB, Arizona, in December of 1974. He served as a C-141 pilot with the 86th Military Airlift Squadron at Travis AFB, California from March 1975 until his retirement from the Air Force on December 1, 1984.
Lt. Col. Davies' distinguished awards include the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with Valor Devices, the Legion of Merit and the Purple Heart.
After retirement, Jack built and owned a few residential properties, enjoyed classic car events with his 1967 Mustang, and enjoyed traveling the United States with Anne and their cats in their travel trailer.
Jack is survived by his wife Anne, his three daughters Stephanie, Barbara, and Marta, two sons-in-law Peter and John, and six grandchildren: Tiffany, Christy, Steven, Mark, Amelia, and Ainslie.
Funeral services will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville, PA 17003 on Tuesday, August 17,2021 at 2 PM. There will be a visitation at the Edward J Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading on Monday, August 16 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
