Louise L. (Lopez) Smith, 87 of Philadelphia, died on December 2, 2007 in Chestnut Hill Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.
She was married on June 15, 1940 to the late John Calhoun Smith, Jr. who died March 9, 2005.
Born on September 9, 1920 in Los Lunas, NM, she was a daughter to the late Martin Lopez and Cruz Delores (Montenegro) Duran.
Louise was a graduate of St. Catherine's High School, Santa Fe, NM in 1938. She also attended University of New Mexico.
Louise was a professional jazz singer for over 60 years.
She was the past Director of the United American Indians of the Delaware Valley and a teacher at Springfield Montessori School, Montgomery County for a number of years. Louise also was Miss New Mexico in 1939 and represented New Mexico at the World's Fair in New York.
Louise was a member of Our Mother of Consolation Roman Catholic Church, Chestnut Hill.
Surviving are: two sons; Nationally Published Writer, John C. III., husband of Randall T. (Tintle) Smith of Wayne and Martin W. Cruz Smith, the author and husband of Emily A. (Arnold) Smith of San Rafael, CA; and a daughter, Beatrice I. (Smith) Golden, founder of Springfield Montessori School and wife of Harold Golden of Philadelphia.
There are six grandchildren and five great grandchildren also surviving.
Louise was the youngest of 19 children.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Twp. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Mother of Consolation R.C. Church, 9 East Chestnut Hill Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118.
