Louise J. (Smith) Long 91, formerly of Hamburg died January 9, 2011 in Phoebe Berks Village of the Spring Ridge Community where she had resided the past year. She was the widow of Herbert Long who died October 9, 2001. Louise was born in Hamburg on March 26, 1919 and was one of 7 children of Edward C. and Mary R. (Wagner) Smith. Louise worked for 30 years for Nelco Home Center, Hamburg as the controller retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Hamburg. She served on the board of directors for the Senior Women's Club of Hamburg for 35 years and was president for two of those years. She was also on the Berks County Senior Citizen Council for six years and served as secretary. Louise belonged to the Administrative Managers Society for many years. During her youth and as a young adult she was active in Girl Scouts as well as Cub Scouts. Louise is survived by one daughter, Paula M. wife of Dr. Chester Anderson, Dickerson, MD, one son Kerry G. husband of Joanne Long, Hyde Park, NY. , four grandchildren, Kevin husband of Erika Long, Natalie Anderson wife of Brendan Baggitt, Jennifer wife of Eric Brady and Valerie wife of Bryan Bupp, six great grandchildren, Rachel Bupp, Cassandra Long, Cameron Brady, Aidan Long, Alexandra Brady and Emily Bupp. Louise is also survived by one brother Honorable Judge Calvin E. Smith husband of Jackie, Wernersville and a close friend and sister-in-law, Alma Leister. She loved her family greatly and enjoyed being "GG" to her six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marilyn Anthony and Pauline Smith and three brothers, Dr. Burgess Smith, E. Gerald Smith and Charles Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM from the First United Church of Christ, 3rd and Pine Streets, Hamburg, PA. Burial will be private in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
