Lorraine B. Brubaker

On August 17, 2017, Lorraine B. Brubaker, 86 years old of Sinking Spring, PA, joined her beloved husband of 57 years, W. L. "Roy" Brubaker. Lorraine was at home surrounded by the loving support of her family with her dog Buddy by her side.

Lorraine was the daughter of T. Ralph and Alice E. (Schrock) Garber, born on Oct. 17th, 1930 in Elkhart, Indiana.

She was a graduate of Manchester College, earning a degree in Primary Education. It was there she met Roy, and began a long loving partnership that they would carry with them on their travels around the world.

A devoted wife, home maker, and mother can only scratch the surface of this fearless strong woman. Lorraine shared her love of adventure and life with others as both a traveler and tour guide She loved her family and friends, and delighted them with her playful nature. On her couch was a pillow, a gift from a friend, that declared to everyone, "I'm not bossy. I just have better ideas." This treasure never failed to bring a smile to Lorraine or to anyone close to her, as it described her so well.

Lorraine loved to play bridge, a game which combined her love of company with her bright intellect. She loved having parties, entertaining guests wherever she and Roy called home. Her garden was an expression of her spirit, and her flowers and vegetables were always responsive to her attentions. Everyone who met Lorraine was touched by her kind and loving spirit.

Lorraine lived in many places, but her Midwest roots remained strong. She settled where Roy's job took them, making homes in Connecticut, Tokyo, Boston, Tallahassee, and finally Sinking Spring.

She is survived by her four children, Nancy Brubaker Dotter and her spouse, Ray, of Wyomissing, PA; Scott Brubaker and his partner Cindy Skoolikas, of East Baldwin, ME; Sue Brubaker Pickwell of Dalton, MA; and Deb Brubaker, also of Wyomissing, PA. Her grandchildren, Matt Dotter and his spouse Mandy, Hanna Pickwell, Sarah Dotter Stahlke and her spouse Andrew, Emily Dotter, Lee Pickwell, and Christian Pickwell also survive her. Her twin sister, Elaine Garber Brubaker, is currently living in Chicago, IL.
